Q. So what is a "second" grilling plank?

A. It's a completely useable grilling plank that has a visual defect that keeps it out of our retail packaging. These defects include: rough faces or edges, a small hole, a short split, cupping, misbrands, or mineral stain. All of our grilling planks, including "seconds" are 100% natural and free from any chemical additives.

Q. Are grilling planks reusable?
A. Yes, but we don't recommend it. Technically, if the grilling plank is still in good shape after the initial use it may be reused. Keep in mind that it will take on the flavor of whatever you grilled on it, and some of the essential oils from the wood will be used up from the first round of grilling. If you are grilling something that requires a long cook time, the plank will be too charred to reuse.

Tip: If you cook using the "indirect method" your grilling planks will have the best chance of being reusable. For charcoal grills simply set the coals on one side of the grill and the grilling plank on the other side. Likewise, for gas grills light one side, usually the front, and place the plank on the other (back) side. If you are planking in the oven, your plank will be in much better condition after use than if you are planking on the grill.

Q: How do you reuse grilling planks?
A. We do not recommend using planks more than once for sanitary reasons.

Q. Are Wildwood Grilling Outlet products chemically treated in any way?
A. No. All of our grilling plank products are 100% natural and free of any chemical treatment.

Q. Can you use grilling planks in the oven?
A. Yes. Plank grilling in the oven infuses your food with steam, keeping it juicy and adding the flavor of the wood. Unlike planking on the grill, it won’t smoke. One of the best ways to roast chicken is by planking in the oven. Just soak the plank for about 15 minutes in hot tap water and place on a baking sheet. Put your food on the plank and roast as directed.

Q. Can I grill foods other than salmon on a grilling plank?
A. Absolutely. You can get some inspiration by taking a look at the blog/recipes section. It has ideas for appetizers, vegetables, poultry, beef, pork and seafood of all kinds. You'll enjoy reading about the successes and experiments of our best bloggers, and if you discover something to plank that we haven’t thought of yet, let us know!
